Future Plans

Classrooms and Multi-Purpose Halls
Each of the Isha Vidhya Schools opens with classes Lower Kindergarten through 2nd Standard. An additional grade level is added each subsequent year until each school has classes from Lower Kindergarten through 12th standard. Yearly infrastructure expansions will be required to accommodate the additional class levels until the schools are running at full capacity. In addition to expanding the classroom facilities for the 2010 – 2011 academic year, we plan to construct multi-purpose halls in each of the schools as meals, meetings and school functions are currently being held in the school corridors. Many opportunities exist for individual and company support of our expansion projects!

School Libraries
A library creates an opportunity for students to expand their horizons and discover new worlds beyond what they experience in life and read in their text books. Through books, students can take their learning into their own hands by exploring their unique areas of interest and passion. Research has shown a strong correlation between student achievement levels and the presence of quality library facilities: Students attending schools with well-stocked libraries achieved high standards regardless of the affluence or education level of their parents and community. Well-equipped libraries are particularly important for schools in underprivileged areas, where children do not have books of their own at home.

Our goal is to equip each of our schools with a minimum of 3000 books. Fundraising efforts are currently underway towards this end, with each book costing approximately Rs. 90, or about $2.

New Schools
Towards our goal of eventually having 206 active schools, plans are underway for opening four new schools for the 2011-2012 academic year. Furthermore, we are currently expanding our team and our departments to facilitate us with our growth.

We would also like to increase our scholarship support. Providing more students with a scholarship and life-changing opportunity also presents a major fundraising challenge, and we look to your support in making this vision a reality!

“Health and education is most important because a nation is not land. The nation is people and their health and education is the core. It is time private corporations invest in these areas. This is not charity. It is an investment. If you plant a coconut tree, you wait ten years to see money. Isn’t it? If you invest in proper education and health in the villages, 70% of our population is right there.”
