If you are able to read this, you are among the few lucky ones who were fortunate enough to have a good education. But, more than half of India's population is not that fortunate.
70% of India lives in its villages. A vast majority of them are still in poverty. The only way to help them and their families to come out of their hopeless situations is through Education. Good quality education.
Isha Vidhya, a non-profit (NGO) education initiative of Isha Foundation, reaches a segment which rarely gets a good deal. They provide high quality education to the rural poor. Even the most underprivileged can afford it because of scholarships donated by the donors.
This is a 100% volunteer run organization where the enthusiasm, commitment and dedication displayed by the volunteers and staff who run these schools are terrific. I have been volunteering for Isha foundation for the last one year and the experience has been truly fulfilling.
Hardly any rural schools and that too those catering to the poor, are in English medium. Isha Vidhya schools teach in English because these kids deserve a chance to pursue higher education beyond school and blossom to their fullest potential anywhere that opportunity beckons.
